An At-63 could sell at 4,3 million Dollars, it was indicated in 2005. In 2002, a price of 6.5 to 7 million Dollars was mentioned.


Customers (Kunden)
The Fuerza Aérea Argentina has ordered six AT-63 Pampas. Another six will be built for possible export customers.
Also, The FAA has contracted for the upgrade of 12 surviving IA 63 Pampas to the new standard.
The Argentinian navy is targeted by LMAASA as a possible customer, to replace obsolete MB.326s.
Argentinian president Ernesto Kirchner discussed a possible AT-63 sale to Bolivia in 2004.

Remarks (Bemerkungen)
The AT-63 is a modernised variant of the Pampa trainer that was developed in the early 1980s by FMA with the assistance of Dornier. New features include:
  • Upgraded cockpit with colour multifunctin displays
  • Mil-Std. 1553B databus
  • Advanced mission computer
  • Weaponsystem from Elbit Systems
  • Head-up-Display von Elop
  • GPS/INS navigation system from Honeywell
An engine upgrade to the TFE731-40 (18,7 kN/4200 lbs thrust) was under consideration in 2005 and could be flown in 2006. In the early phases of the programme. The fitment of an APG-67 radar was announced.
From 1988, the FMA (Fabrica Militar de Aviones) built 18 Pampas (IA 63) at Córdoba. This includes the three flying prototypes, the first of which took to the air on 6 October 1984. They were delivered to the Fuerza Aérea Argentina and now serve at 1 Escuadron of 4 Grupo de Caza at El Plumerillo, Mendoza.


History (Geschichte)
The original FMA factory in Córdoba is managed by Lockheed Martin since 1995. In June 2000, LMAASA announced a new five year maintenance and support contract for the air force, worth 230 million US Dollars. It included 12 new Pampa jet trainers (plus an option for 24 more).
In mid-2001, the company announced that the new Pampas would be attack/trainer versions. At that time, a first flight was expected in November 2001, with new production to start in 2003.
As of April 2002, a first flight was expected in November 2002, but a national funding crisis in 2002 forced the work to be stopped.
The AT-63 programme was reactivated in February 2004 under the new Government, with two contracts for upgrade work und new-builds.
The first prototype (actually EX-03, the third IA 63) was rolled out at Córdoba on 15 December 2004.
The first flight of the AT-63 was performed on 22 or 23 June 2005 at Córdoba. On June 30, an official flight presentation was made before the company´s 1000 employees. At that time it was said that deliveries to the Argentinian air force should begin in February 2006. This will be upgraded airframes. The new-build aircraft should be delivered by November 2007.
