First Test Flight of New Cargo Modification of Il-96-400T Airplane Takes Place
The first test flight of the new cargo modification of the Il-96-400T airplane took place on 14 August 2007 at the Voronezh VASO aircraft plant. This is the first new generation aircraft of a similar class built in Russia based on the wide-body Il-96-300 airplane. No counterparts commercial payload airplanes of a similar type exist in the world. Russian engines and an upgraded complex Russian manufactured flying and navigational equipment is installed on the Il-96-400 which allows using the aircraft without any kind of limitations around the whole world.
The Il-96-400T can carry up to 92 tonnes of freight on medium and intercontinental routes. Loading through two side cargo doors onto two decks allows carrying the whole existing spectrum of standard international freight pallets and containers, and the motorized floor allows loading and unloading in the shortest time.
The Atlant-Soyuz airline, who ordered five such airplanes from OAO Il'yushin Finans Ko, is the airplane's initial customer. The first aircraft will be handed over for joint airline tests at the MAKS-2007 international air salon. The airplane will complete the necessary certification tests during September and will be delivered to the customer. Atlant-Soyuz will receive a second Il-96-400T before the end of 2007. The remaining airplanes will be delivered to the customer during 2009.
