History (Geschichte) Serge Dassault officially announced the Falcon 50EX on 26 April 1995. At that time, the first aircraft was already under construction. A programme to certify the Collins Pro Line 4 avionic was started in February 1996 by Dassault Falcon Jet in Little Rock (USA), using Falcon 50 s/n 252. The first Falcon 50EX flew on 10 April 1996. During this initial flight, which lasted 1 hour and 55 minutes, pilots Jean Bongiraud and Etienne Faurdessus took off at 33300 lbs, flew to 10000 ft altitude, then climbed directly to 41000 ft and cruised at Mach 0.8. Stalls at reduced power settings were also tested. French certification was achieved on 15 November 1996, with FAA approval following on 20 December. The first production unit, s/n 253, made its first flight at Bordeaux-Merignac on 25 October 1996. The new model gave its debut at the NBAA show in November 1996, after flying from Le Bourget to Teterboro on 16th November. First customer delivery was made in February 1997, to Volkswagen of Germany. Falcon Jet of the US handed over the first two completed Falcon 50EX on May 30 and June 11, 1997. The Falcon 50M or Surmar version for the French Aéronavale was flown in November 1998. Deliveries started early in 2000 after some 100 hours of flight tests. All four Surmars will be in service by 2001.
