Competitors (Konkurrenz) Bombardier Global Express Dassault Falcon 900EX Remarks (Bemerkungen) The Gulfstream IV-SP (Special Performance) is the latest iteration of the GIII and GIV lines of long range business jets. It features an improved payload (+ 1135 kg) and a better maximum landing weight (+ 3400 kg) with no increase in the empty weight, allowing a better payload/range performance. Apart from the basic business jet version, the GIV/GIV-SP is built for military missions. Together, the Gulfstream IVs and IV-SPs have established or broken 81 national and world flight records. The GIV-SP offers a dispatch reliability of 99,7 percent. History (Geschichte) The GIV-SP was announces at the NBAA convention in Houston in October 1991. It flew for the first time on 24 June 1992 in the form of a converted GIV airframe. All aircraft sold after September 1992 are Gulfstream IV-SPs. The original GIV flew for the first time on 19. September 1985. Three prototypes were used for the 1412 hour flight test programme leading to FAA certification on 22. April 1987. Major differences of the GIV compared with the GIII are: * redesgined wing with new low drag profile and lighter and less complex structure * increased tailplane span * 1,37 m fuselage stretch * Tay turbofans * EFIS flightdeck * digital avionics with integrated flight managment system The 250th Gulfstream IV was completed in October 1994 in Savannah.
