Competition (Konkurrenten) Hongdu JL-15 Remarks (Bemerkungen) The JL-9, also known as the FTC-2000, is a further development of the JJ-7/FT-7, which is in essence a MiG-21U variant in service with the PLAAF. New features include:
History (Geschichte) The FTC-2000 was revealed in model form at Airshow China in November 2000. At that time, wind tunnel tests were completed. A full scale mockup of the FTC-2000 was shown at the airshow in Zhuhai in 2002. Three prototypes will be built. First flight of the JL-9 Shanying (Mountain Eagle) was completed on 13 December 2003 at the Shuangyang plant in Guizhou province, with test pilot Qian Zhaoquan at the controls. Deliveries could start in 2005.
