In July 2004 it was said that the baseline helicopter shuld cost 4 – 4,7 million US-Dollars.
Direct operating costs claimed as 615,24 US-Dollars in July 2004.


Customers (Kunden)
After the Paris Air Show in June 2005, total orders exceeded 50.
In October 2004 it was said that over 20 deposits had been received for the Grand. At the unveiling in Farnborough AgustaWestland said that orders already exist, without giving details.
Known customers are:
  • Aerolineas Ejecutivas: 2. Ordered on 7 February 2005 at Heli-Expo.
  • Baxter Air: 1. Announced at the Paris Air Show in June 2005.
  • David Mosters: 1. The South African entrepreneur ordered the Grand at the Paris Air Show in June 2005.
  • Graham Roach: 1. Handed over to this British customer at the Paris Air Show in June 2005.
  • Seacor Holdings: 3. Order announced on 22 September 2004. Launch customer for the US oil and gas support sector.

Remarks (Bemerkungen)
AgustaWestland terms the Grand an “intermediate size helicopter with light twin economics” and wants to compete in compete in the 2500-4000 kg market segment, which accounted for 40 per cent of civil deliveries in 2003. The Grand was developed from the A109, but features a cabin stretch of 20 cm and further improvements like:
  • composite main and tail rotor blades
  • new FADEC controlled engines
  • gearbox and transmission uprated
  • advanced avionics
The Grand is aimed at the VIP/Corporate, SAR, EMS and offshore transport markets.


History (Geschichte)
Flight testing of the Grand secretly began in early 2003, and by mid 2004, two prototypes were in use.
AgustaWestland unveiled its Grand at the Farnborough air show on 20 July 2004. A cabin mock-up was shown.
In July 2004 it was said that Italian ENAC certification should be achieved by the end of the year and first deliveries could be made in mid-2005. 15 helicopters should be delivered by 2005, with 70 per cent of them already on the books, it was claimed.
EASA certification for single pilot IFR operation was achieved on 1 June 2005.
