Antonov and Chkalov have set up a joint venture company, Antonov Siberian Aircraft, aimed at sales and after-sales support. History (Geschichte) Work on the An-38 began in 1989 under the direction of Dmitri Kiva, with the aim of producing a stretched and updated version of the An-28. Due to "conversion" considerations in the then Soviet Union, the Novosibirsk plant (NAPA = Novosibirsk Aviation Production Association) became involved. A model was shown at the Paris Air Show in 1991. Prototypes were built at NAPA and the first flight was on June 22, 1994, with Aleksei Khrustitski at the controls. Due to difficulties with funding, certification to Russian AP-25 standards was not achieved until 22 April 1997. The An-38-200 flew for the first time on 11 December 2001 at the Novosibirsk factory airport of NAPA. The crew for the 45 minute mission consisted of Victor V. Goncharov (Antonov) and Valeriy S. Potashov (NAPA). The test programme is to get started early in 2002, with completion during the year. | |
