History (Geschichte) After acquiring the design rights of Bill Lears design and making many changes to the original concept, Canadair flew the first Challenger on 8 November 1978. Certification was achieved in late 1980, and deliveries of the Challenger 600 ended in 1983 after 84 were built. Further development led to the following versions:
The 500th Challenger, a 604 model, was delivered to Christos Cotsakos, chairman and chief executive officer of E-Trade, at the eve of NBAA on 9 October 2000 in New Orleans.
