Remarks (Bemerkungen)
The GV represents a new class of super long-range business jets for companies operating around the globe. It is conceptually based on the GIV-SP, but features:
  • a re-engineered fuselage, stretched by 2,13 m
  • a larger wing of the same basic shape and structure, but more efficient
  • larger vertical and horizontal tail surfaces
  • Rolls-Royce BR710 engines in place of Rolls-Royce Tays
Gulfstream has concluded risk-sharing agreements with various suppliers, like Northrop Grumman (wing), Shin Maywa (wing) and Fokker (tail and floor).

History (Geschichte)
A study was revealed at the NBAA convention in Houston in October 1991. The programme was then officially launched at the Farnborough Air Show in September 1992, when also the selection of the BR710 engine was confirmed.
Production parts manufacturing commenced in September 1993, and the first prototype rolled out at Savannah on 12 September 1995. The first flight followed on November 28.
One static test airframe and three more aircraft were involved in the test programme, as follows:
  • N501GV: first prototype
  • N502GV: second aircraft was used for structural test before becoming a company demonstrator
  • N503GV: first flown 10 March 1996, mainly used for systems testing
  • N504GV: first flown May 1996
  • N505GV: first flown August 1996
After more than 1100 flight hours in 550 sorties, provisional FAA certification was optained on 16. December 1996 . Full certification was granted on 11 April 1997.
The first customer ceremoniously put its GV into service on July 1, 1997. Serial 507 was presented to Ambassador and Mrs. Walter H. Annenberg in Savannah and then flew to its base at New Castle (Delaware) County Airport.
Lockheed Martin had choosen the GV for its bid for the ASTOR requirement of the UK. It would be fitted with a large antenna under the fuselage, in-flight refuelling probe and satellite antenna on top of the cabin. That bid was unsuccessful, as the London ministry of defence announced selection of a Raytheon solution based on the Bombardier Global Express in June 1999.
Gulfstream booked its 100th order for the GV in July 1998.
By July 1999, Gulfstream had handed over its 50th GV. The 61st aircraft followed in October 1999. The 100th aircraft was delivered in April 2000.
In October 2000, Gulfstream Aeropsace announced the GV-SP, with enhanced performance (see separate file).
