At its introduction in October 1990, the Learjet 31 was priced at 4,295 million US-Dollars. Customers (Kunden) A totoal of 206 Learjet 31s were built by December 2000. This number includes 36 of the original Learjet 31. In 2000, deliveries numbered 28. There were 24 in 1999, 22 in 1998, 21 in 1997, 13 in 1996, 19 in 1995 and 14 in 1994. Twenty-one were in the Bombardier FlexJets fleet in early 1999. Customers include Singapore Airlines (pilot training) and the government of Balochistan, a Pakistani state. Competition (Konkurrenz) Cessna Citation II Cessna Citation V Raytheon Beechjet 400A Remarks (Bemerkungen) The Learjet 31A is the entry-level jet in Bombardiers corporate aviaiton family. It is claimed to offer the lowest operating cost of any transport category corporate jet. Design features of the original Learjet 31 model include the fuselage/cabin and power plant from the Learjet 35A/36A models with the wing of the Learjet 55. Delta fins were added to eliminate Dutch roll tendencies. They are said to stabilize the aircraft at high airspeeds, induce docile stall and reduce approach speeds and field lengths. The Learjet 31A, which was announced inOctober 1990, offers five major enhancements, including an increase in cruise Mach number, an highly integrated digital avionics package from AlliedSignal (now Honeywell) as standard, reengineered flight deck display and control panels, a steer-by-wire nosewheel steering and an electrically heated windshield.. There also is an optional extended range version (31A/ER) with 2627 litres of fuel, but reduced cabin space. History (Geschichte) The Learjet 31 was first announced in September 1987, but an aerodynamic prototype (modified Learjet 35A) had already flown on May 11, 1987. The first production aircraft (N311DF) was then used as a systems testbed. FAA certification to FAR Part 25 standards occurred on August 12, 1988. At the NBAA convention in New Orleans in October 1990, the Learjet 31A and 31A/ER were announced to replace the Learjet 31. FAA certification was achieved on 25 July 1991. Deliveries began that month, to North American customers. A German type certificate was awarded on November 12, 1991. By September 1993, 74 Learjet 31As were delivered and had logged more than 45000 flight hours. In October 1994, Bombardier announced a price reduction of half a million Dollars, to 4,495 million US-Dollars, "to represent best value among light jets and hig-end turboprops". The 100th Learjet 31/31A was used as a demonstrator in 1995. By June 1996, the first aircraft with a new aft-cabin lavatory installation was delivered. Also in 1996, an optional baggage locker installed below the tail was becoming available at 74950 US-Dollars. In April 1999, Bombardier increased the maximum takeoff weight to 8029 kg, enabling another 317 kg of paylaod. At the NBBA convention in Atlanta In October 1999, Bombardier announced a number of enhancements for the Learjet 31A, which were included in aircraft coming off the line early in 2000. Among the changes are:
On October 3, 2000, the 200th aircraft was handed over to Falcon Air Services of Phoenix, Arizona.
