The Military Air Systems division of EADS is developing this mid-size tactical rotary wing UAV for autonomous operation from ships. Features include:
- coaxial rotor with electric actuators. It provides 30 per cent more lift at equal weight when comparedto conventional helicopters with tail rotor, EADS claims.
- redundant flight controls
- laser altimeter
- control and data links
- antennas can be integrated into the skin
- electro-optical as well as IR sensors and synthetic aperture radar
History (Geschichte)
EADS announced the existence of the Sharc after the successful first flight, which took place on 14 June 2007 at Manching. Development of the demonstrator had taken about two years.
