History (Geschichte) Boeing was working on very efficient designs for a 757 and 767 successor since at least 1999, but these concepts were then overshadowed by the "Sonic Cruiser high-speed airliner project. Project "Yellowstone became a "reference for the "Sonic Cruiser. When the latter was finally shelved in December 2002, it re-emerged as the main thrust of Boeings future design work, having attracted favourable comments by the airlines which are still struggling for survival after the events of 11 September 2001. Boeing Commercial president Alan Mulally said on 20 December 2002 that he hopes the new project will be "technically launched in early 2004 "at the latest, if there is enough airline interest.
