The chances for 1998 are reportedly good. The organizers are taking the British challenge, of conducting the Farnborough airshow 2000 from 24 to 30 July, calmly. Still, the number of skeptics who are predicting an end for ILA is increasing. The British attack at ILA is taking on obscure forms in the British media. The facts that NH90 and A319 gave their debut in Berlin was kept a secret until now. No chance is being missed to elevate the airshows in Singapore and Dubai to the level of Farnborough and Le Bourget, without even mentioning Berlin. This behavior will probably become even worse when it counts for Farnborough in 2000. The ILA organizers are now in a position of having to decide if they want to stick to the airshow date in May 2000 or to change the concept entirely. A discussion has been going on for years in Germany about the ILA being established as a hall exhibition in the style of an American convention, in connection with a flying display for the public. This would be a solution in the interest of the business visitors and the industry. The high costs of the international aerospace trade fair circus traveling in regular intervals around the world could be reduced. Other plus points include a better contact platform and a higher attractivity for trade visitors. The number of business visitors is a particular weak point of the ILA, in spite of a light upward trend in 1996. If just one flying display of the Flying Legends organization can attract 100000 visitors, a similar success could certainly be achieved for a new ILA. From page 15 of FLUG REVUE 8/97
